About Ithemba Labasha
Ithemba Labasha means‘hope for our children’in Zulu and is an NPO run community centre in Shaka’s Head, just outside Ballito. We run full day care for toddlers who get fed breakfast and lunch daily. In the afternoons after school, local school children come to the Centre for a daily hot cooked meal, Monday to Friday.
In the near future we are hoping to start an after hours training programme, to teach basic trade skills to the unemployed youth in the area, eg electrical, plumbing, painting, hairdressing etc.. giving them a better chance at employment.
We have developed a supporting committee to the existing NPO committee, consisting of an auditor, some business people and people like myself…just passionate about making a difference. Funds are strictly controlled. As a committee we are active in arranging fundraising events throughout the year.Ithemba Labasha has an NPO number Registration Number 121-730 NPO…(certificate attached). We also have our beneficiary certificate which will help donors achieve better BEE ratings.( beneficiary certificate also attached)
Some of these donations are given to our hard working volunteers in lieu of payment, and some of the donations go to our “Litter4Tokens” campaign. Community members collect recyclable litter off the streets and are awarded 2x tokens for each bag of litter collected, that they can exchange their tokens for goods that have been donated to us. This keeps the community neat and tidy and gives the unemployed people a chance to earn some kind of reward !! This campaign is working very well.
Ithemba Labasha has been approved by SARS as a Public Benefits Organization (PBO), which enables us us to give individuals/companies a Section 18A receipt for qualifying donations.
Our Donors can then claim Tax deduction when submitting their tax Returns.
We also have a Beneficiary Recognition Certificate which will assist donors in getting a better BEE score.
